Future Projects
Waingaro Quarry Expansion
With the current section of quarry nearing the end of its capacity, we’re proposing to gradually expand the existing Waingaro Quarry to secure aggregate supply for future infrastructure projects and developments in Waikato.
Waingaro Quarry Open Day
Learn about the quarry and our plans for the future at this FREE event.
While we’re in the early stages of planning for expansion, we want to talk to our neighbours and members of the local Ngāruawāhia community.
Everyone is invited to get a behind-the-scenes look at the quarry, learn about our expansion proposal and discuss what matters to you.
We’re opening the quarry gates, with some impressive machinery on display, activities for the kids plus food trucks and sausage sizzle.
When: Sunday 23 March 2025, 10am – 2pm
Where: Waingaro Quarry, 184 Waingaro Road, Ngāruawāhia.
Parking available on site, follow all signs and staff directions.
Expansion proposal
We’re proposing to expand the existing Waingaro Quarry to secure aggregate supply for future infrastructure projects and developments in Waikato.
We’ve identified a section of our current site that can be gradually expanded for extraction over the next 50 years. Aggregate will continue to be a much-needed resource within the Golden Triangle – the area between Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga.
The proposed expansion includes establishing a construction material and aggregate recycling yard on site. This recycling yard will promote sustainability in the local construction sector and help reduce landfill waste.
Did you know…?
- Every kilometre of state highway uses between 14,000 and 20,000 tonne of aggregate.
- The average sealed suburban road requires 4,000 tonne of aggregate per kilometre.
- Each new house requires approx. 250 tonne of aggregate.
Supporting local growth
The environmental and economic cost of aggregate increases as it’s transported away from the quarry to its final destination.
Local aggregate, that’s close to a project, helps keep construction costs down and can reduce transport emissions to help lower the carbon footprint of the project.
As the Waikato region continues to grow, a secure and cost-effective aggregate supply is needed.
The proposed Waingaro Quarry expansion will help secure the supply of local aggregate for nearby developments and major infrastructure projects.
We’re committed to supplying affordable and local aggregate for the region, now and well into the future.
Protecting our environment
We make it a priority to reduce our impact on the environment. We’ll continue our existing environmental protection and ecological enhancement programmes at our Waingaro Quarry.
