Clevedon Quarry connects with local community

Stevenson recently brought Clevedon locals together over 20–21 March for a community information day and also welcomed stakeholders onsite for a guided tour of the quarry.
The events offered locals, whānau, nearby neighbours and the wider community the opportunity to see the quarry up close and learn more about what’s planned for the future.
Stevenson General Manager, Ben Hussey, says the events were held to provide locals with the opportunity to learn more about Clevedon Quarry and for Stevenson staff to connect and engage with the wider community..

“We really appreciated people taking the time to come along, ask questions and share their feedback with our team,” says Ben.
Held at the Clevedon A&P Showgrounds, the community information day gave locals the opportunity to meet the quarry team, explore quarry machinery on display, ask questions about the proposed quarry expansion and learn how the site operates.

Visitors were able to speak directly with staff, view information displays and hear more about the role the quarry plays in supporting local construction and region-wide infrastructure.
Alongside the information day, invited stakeholders took part in a guided quarry tour, which included onsite briefings from staff and technical consultants.
“We know that seeing operations in person can make a real difference,” says Ben.
“Sharing what we do, how we do it and what we’ve got planned for the future is an important part of working alongside our neighbours and local community.”

Stevenson is proposing to gradually expand the existing Clevedon Quarry to secure aggregate supply for future infrastructure projects and developments in Auckland. Staff are preparing to lodge the first step in the expansion application by May 2026.
The recent events are part of the ongoing community engagement through the Community Liaison Group, which meets regularly and includes local representatives. Feedback from residents and the issues raised are important part of the planning process and will inform the expansion plans.
“We encourage anyone who wants to learn more about the proposed expansion to get involved, ask questions, and stay informed as consenting process progresses,” says Ben.
